GLASGOW enjoyed its hottest temperature of the year so far as the mercury soared to 24.3C (75F).

But while the city was hotter than parts of the Med, including Ibiza, where temperatures peaked at 22C, it wasn't the warmest area of  Scotland.

The weather was slightly warmer in Kinlochewe in Wester Ross, peaking at 25.8C (78F), which saw the hottest temperatures in the UK.

That was also the joint highest temperature recorded in the UK so far this year, alongside Cornwall, which experienced a hot spell during the Easter weekend.

The weather is expected to be slightly cooler on Thursday but forecasters said Glasgow should still enjoy pleasantly warm temperatures of between 20 and 21C with a maximum of 19C on Friday.

However, sunseekers were being advised to enjoy it while it lasts as the weekend is likely to see temperatures dip back down to a brisk 15C.
