“Rita where are you?”, screams an impatient young fan from the standing area of the Hydro arena, as it approaches 9pm. It’s a late start for her youngest fans but a dramatic one on this last night of the UK leg of her Phoenix world tour.

She emerges from below the stage, sparks flying, dressed in white with the Liam Payne Fifty Shades of Grey duet, For You.

She’s a strong vocalist, the sound is effortless and rich and it’s easy to see why she attracted the attention of Jay-Z, for her voice if nothing else, fuelling her eary success. She has two backing singers but shines without them.

The catchy Your Song is followed by  the pacier Doing It before there’s a quick costume change into sparkling sequins for the Rudimental collaboration Doing It. Striding onto a platform into the crowd, New Look shows off her impressive vocals to full effect.

Girls comes with a message to respect one another before she gives a quick chorus of Cindy Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

“I don’t think I’d like to finish this tour anywhere else than Glasgow,” wins over the crowd as she praises the fans who have made an effort to dress up for tonight’s mid-wek show as well as those who haven’t.

There’s a genuineness to her interactions with the crowd and her delight at performing catchy hit after hit.

There’s another costume change into a Madonna-esque black cloak for Body on me complete with sexy one on one routine with a male dancer.

It’s followed by more, positive advice for fans about survival through life’s darker moments before the mood lightens and she gets the crowd joining in to, I will Never Let you Down.

Another costume change, has her in Victoria’s Secret style wings for She Rose Again before fans are taken back to fun early hit Hot Right Now.

The closing crowd pleaser Anywhere rounds off a polished, mood-boosting set.
