Westlife fans are scrambling for refunds after being told they would have to stand at the concert or go home, after issues with stage level seating.

It is believed traffic delays resulted in seats not arriving at the SSE Hydro in time for the doors opening on Tuesday.

Bosses at the venue issued a statement advising ticketholders that they would be “entitled to a full refund from the original point of purchase” if they were unable to stand.

The majority of people affected had shelled out hundreds of pounds for seats closest to the stage.

Those who decided to go-ahead with the concert were placed into general standing with a poor view of the stage or allocated seats in the back of the venue.

One woman, who is suffering from terminal cancer, was told on arrival that the seats for her and her daughter were no longer available.

Speaking to the Evening Times, her husband said: “This was to be special, she had treatment last week and is still weak from it.

“She had to work her treatment around the concert. She was at the Beatson last week and it takes over a week to get over the chemo, she wasn’t 100 per cent on the day but was determined to go.

“I had planned it from last year and was determined to get the best seats I could afford. She would have been about four rows from the front which would have been a big thrill for her but instead was sat somewhere really high up.

“They said you can go home and claim your money back. What kind of useless helpful information is that to someone in her position?”

Sami Hamill travelled down from Aberdeen for the show, only to be told she would have to stand if she wanted to attend.

She explained: “I am six months into a high risk pregnancy and we had a six hour round car trip and spent £400 on tickets - it’s a disgrace. We left our four-year-old at home. We had to drive all the way home without seeing the show. The treatment we received is shocking.”

A spokesperson for Live Nation said: “ Westlife’s Twenty Tour at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro suffered seating configuration adjustments due to the delay of production elements of the Twenty Tour arriving at the arena. This is a rare and isolated incident.”
