A park in Glasgow's East End has been cordoned off after a 'suspicious item' was found.

A bomb squad are currently on the scene at Alexandra Park in Dennistoun.

The Provan Road entrance of the park, near the golf course, is currently closed off by police.

The item has been located and police and army personnel remain at the scene.

The are currently trying to ascertain what the package is.

Part of the park remains cordoned off to the public as investigations continue.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "At about 8.10am this morning, police received a report of a suspicious item with Alexandra Park. As a precautionary measure, a cordon has been placed around an area of the park.

"The EOD are currently on the scene to examine the item."

Two fire service crews have also arrived at the scene. 

The Evening Times has learned part of the park golf course has been closed by the police. 

One golfer said: “I was told when I started that the police have instructed golfers not to play hole 8 with a vague reference to a bomb. 

“We can play the other holes of the course."
