IT'S time for Glasgow to nominate its favourite businesses for 2019.

The high-profile award, sponsored by the Evening Times, has over the years honoured some of the best-known businesses in the city.

It is part of the Glasgow Business Awards, which are organised by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, with Royal Bank of Scotland once again returning as headline sponsor.

The awards, which will be held at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel on October 3, will see the presentation of the Most Outstanding Business award, sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland, before culminating with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Our sister paper, The Herald, is media partner for the event.

The dinner and presentations will feature no fewer than 13 contested awards, but the award sponsored by the Evening Times is the only category to be decided by a public vote.

Last year's Favourite Business was Dear Green Coffee, a coffee roaster and supplier of

'speciality' grade coffee beans that was established in 2011.

The company's founder, Lisa Lawson, said this week: "It was quite overwhelming to win Glasgow's Favourite Business award last year and made me proud of our amazing team at Dear Green and all of the hard work we have put in over the years to put Glaswegian-roasted coffee on the map.

"To even be nominated was extremely flattering and then to win a public vote against such a diverse range of Glasgow organisations was an incredible achievement for or small company which came from extremely humble beginnings."

Lisa added: "We’ve had a great year and have been especially proud to hold the title of Glasgow's Favourite Business and use it to promote the profile of the company to different markets who possibly hadn’t heard of our work already.

"Gratitude goes to our awesome team and customers for being brilliant ambassadors of our product and to everyone who voted for us last year!"

Richard Muir, deputy chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “Glasgow’s Favourite Business is a much-loved part of our annual awards, providing a platform to celebrate everything that’s great about the city’s business community from the view of the people that use the services week on week.

“Glasgow is a city that continues to thrive and is the ideal location for businesses of all sizes to prosper. Over the last few years, we’ve celebrated everything from joke shops and vets, to cafes and taxis, and everything in between, and we look forward to celebrating another round of successful businesses across the city’s landscape.

“We’re thrilled that the Evening Times has brought the award back for yet another year and it’s great to launch the category with last year’s winner Dear Green Coffee, a business supplying delicious, ethically-sourced coffee from sustainable coffee producers.”

Muir added: “Last year we celebrated the Glasgow Business Awards coming of age, and now as we move forward into our twenties, we’re thrilled to continue to champion the local business community.

“We’re in an important phase in the city’s economic history and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has been working closely with key stakeholders to develop the “Glasgow narrative”, telling the business story of our great city. The overall aim is to understand how well the world recognises our economic assets and capabilities, positioning the region against other urban areas across the globe.”

Jim McIntyre, regional director of Royal Bank, said: “This is our third year supporting these awards and we continue to be inspired by the outstanding entrants who call this city their home."
