PARTICK Thistle has gathered praise online after launching a new kit incorporating the rainbow Pride flag.

Partick Thistle Women’s Football Club players, Sara Robson, Deborah McLeod and Steph Mallon were joined by Jamie Sneddon, Tam O’Ware and Joe Cardle to help launch the kit at the Energy Check Stadium at Firhill on Tuesday.

While the home shirt features the traditional red and yellow, the mainly white away shirt features the rainbow colours of the LGBT+ Pride flag.

Twitter users were quick to praise the club over the move on Twitter.

One wrote: “Good on the club. About time clubs start battling the small-minded dinosaurs that blight our game. Well done to the club.”

Another added: “Bold move! This will get some amount of publicity and all for the right reasons. Takes great Leadership to make bold calls like this!”

“This is awesome. Proud to see my club giving out a positive, inclusive message,” said one user of the site.

“I'm a Dundee United fan and I'm buzzing this kit launch more than our own!”, was another comment.

One man chipped in: “Can’t wait to see this.”

Chief executive, Gerry Britton, said: “We are really pleased with how the strips look and hope the supporters will like them as much as we do. We were very clear when putting together the design, that we wanted to make a statement about inclusivity and that’s what inspired the rainbow feature on the away shirt.

“Partick Thistle is one Club open to all, we will not accept discrimination in any form and I sincerely hope that this shows that. Football can be such a wonderful universal language that can help bridge all sorts of divides, both large and small. As a Club, if we can use this sport that we all love to make all of our supporters feel welcome, even if that is through something as simple as a band of colour on a shirt, then it’s a simple decision.”
