A CRAFTY crook attempted to steal a car from a petrol station forecourt - while a child was in the backseat of the vehicle. 

Cops are investigating the robbery bid which happened in the petrol station of Tesco Extra in Hallhill Road, Shettleston on Friday night.

It is understood that the owner of the vehicle was going to pay for petrol when the would-be car thief stuck.

The Evening Times also understands that a child, believed to be as young as three, was in a car seat during the attempted theft.

The spooked suspect then made off towards Shettleston Road and cops were called.

Police Scotland said they have launched an investigation into the attempted robbery.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "It was 6.10pm on Friday, June 21, we received a report of an attempted theft of a motor vehicle at a supermarket garage in Shettleston. 

"Officers attended and enquiries are ongoing."
