A POLICE watchdog will investigate how officers responded to an incident that resulted in the death of a man in the River Clyde.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) will look at the circumstances leading up to the man's body being recovered in the water.
We reported yesterday that officers were initially called to a report of a disturbance close to the Euro Hostel on Clyde Street. On arrival, a man ran along Clyde Street before jumping into the water at the suspension bridge.
A huge search operation was launched involving the police, firefighters and the coastguard - but sadly the man died.
Police said yesterday they were working to identify the man. It is not clear yet if the man was involved in the disturbance.

A spokesperson for the PIRC’s Investigation Team said: “We are carrying out an investigation following the death of a man whose body was recovered from the River Clyde in Glasgow on Wednesday, July 4.
“The incident was referred to us by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report will be submitted to them in due course."
We reported last night that another incident happened at the waterfront on Paisley Road West close to the Quay entertainment complex. Emergency services raced to the scene before 11pm. Police Scotland have yet to comment on the incident.
