Nine places to enjoy Afternoon Tea Week in Glasgow

Eusebi Deli, in the West End, will be offering the Italian exclusive to mark Afternoon Tea Week which runs from August 12 to 18.

The afternoon tea was created by the Duchess of Bedford Anna Russell in the mid1840s and centuries on, the treat has become a great British tradition. 

Now the Eusebi team said they are serving up a variety of both sweet and savoury delicacies with a glass of Prosecco, an Aperol Aperitivo or a mocktail on Friday, August 16.

Eusebi Deli has been based in Glasgow for over 40 years starting life out in the East End before moving to their current Park Road location.

Owner Giovanna Eusebi said: “We are delighted to be holding Eusebi’s first ever afternoon tea to celebrate Afternoon Tea Week.

"My family has been working to deliver an authentic Italian experience in the heart of Glasgow for the past four decades, and our afternoon tea will be a new way for our loyal customers to enjoy our freshly-made focaccias, cakes and pastries.”

The Eusebi afternoon tea will be available on Friday, August 16 only, with tables available from 3pm to 5pm.

The afternoon tea will be priced at £35 per person.

In case you can't make Eusebi Deli's one-off afternoon tea, here are other city locations where you can enjoy the treat.

The Village Hotel Club at Festival Gate on the banks of the Clyde has an afternoon ‘par-tea’ menu, designed by Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown.

The tasty line-up includes mini brioches filled with creamy egg mayonnaise and spinach, a roasted sweet potato, chorizo and red pepper tart, mini cornflake tarts with lemon curd, chocolate and orange scones and rhubarb and custard profiteroles.

Prices start from £17.50 per person with tea and coffee, or you can upgrade to include an alcoholic drink such as G&T or Aperol Spritz for £25, or a half bottle of Prosecco for £30.

The newly opened The Ivy on Buchanan Street has an afternoon tea selection which starts at £7.95 for a basic cream tea. Afternoon tea is £18.95 while you can add champagne for £26.50.

And if you are there on the right day, you never know what A-List star you might see.

Kimble's in the St Enoch's Centre offer an afternoon tea with pastrami, roasted peppers, smoked back bacon and Scottish smoked salmon just some of the sandwiches to tempt you. Prices start at £14.50 and Prosecco options are available. 

The Hidden Lane tearoom tucked away in Argyle Court has an afternoon tea which starts at £15. It includes a selection of four finger sandwiches, four mini cakes, a mini scone with clotted cream and jam. And you can wash the lot of it down with one pot of tea or large coffee.

The Corinthian Club describes their signature afternoon tea as 'handmade with love and care'. It features fresh hand-cut sandwiches, as well as a selection of cakes and sweet treats, all of which are baked daily in house and hand-finished by the venue's pastry chef. Prices start at £19.95.

The Butterfly and the Pig on Bath Street pride themselves on offering 'hearty portions' with their afternoon tea. Prices start at £17.50 and includes a selection of canapes, sandwiches, scones, and cakes.

Browns in George Square have an afternoon tea packed with savouries and finger sandwiches, home-baked scones with clotted cream and jam, seasonal cakes and mini sweet treats. Prices start at £16.50.

If you fancy taking your afternoon tea on the road, the Red Bus bistro is an experience like no other. You can enjoy your afternoon tea while touring the city. Prices start at £35.
