AN ABANDONED snack van has been taken away by West Dunbartonshire Council after two years.

Old Kilpatrick Community Council said they have “finally persuaded” the council to remove the fast food van which had been dumped on private land, at the entrance to the Lusset Glen.

Isobel Plunkett, chair of the community council, said: “As well as being an eyesore it was really demoralising for the volunteers who work so hard throughout the year picking litter and tending flower beds.

“On the positive side the issue has given WDC, the community council and other volunteer groups an opportunity to talk about the kind of place villagers want to live in and to discuss ideas for practical improvements which could be made in the village.”

Isobel believes the process to get the van removed may have been a blessing in disguise.

She added: “It’s taken far longer than we thought and there have been some cross words along the way but we’re very hopeful that in the future we’ll see some real improvements in our surroundings.”
