THE first of many community-funded defibrillators have been installed at a Glasgow bar one month on since the tragic death of its landlord.

Peter Derrick, 58, from Netherlee in Glasgow, suffered cardiac arrest after he was allegedly attacked in his own pub, Viceroy Bar, on Paisley Road West in July.

Peter was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital and placed in an induced coma, but died 12 days later.

His daughter Robyn, 27, started a fundraising campaign to install the lifesaving devices along the route to Ibrox stadium.

More than £7000 has been raised so far after the community rallied round. Rangers FC are also running a second text to donate appeal at tomorrow’s Old Firm game.

Robyn said: “It is a bitter sweet moment for us. It is one month on since dad died and I just wish he was here to see this.

“The community response has been fantastic and my dad would be very proud. I didn’t think we would raise this much so quickly, but we think we will be in a position to install around eight defibrillators.

“It might be too late for my dad, but we just hope it can save someone else’s life.”

The device has been fitted outside the bar so that punters and passersby can access it in an emergency.

Bar staff will be given training from St Andrew’s Ambulance staff.

Robyn said they have been given a huge amount of support from the community. They also received a letter of condolence from Rangers following Peter’s death.

“We are just trying to keep going as a family. The one month anniversary has not been easy, but things like this help,” added Robyn.
