JASON Naismith insists he had no second thoughts about returning to Scottish football after Hibernian made him a loan target.

The former St Mirren and Ross County defender has penned a season-long agreement with the capital side after falling down the pecking order at Peterborough United.

The 25-year-old made 50 appearances for the English League One side last term but has failed to force his way into Darren Ferguson’s plans since returning from the close-season lay-off.

With skipper David Gray, who will be sidelined for three months with knee ligament damage, and summer signing Tom James currently ruled out through injury, the Easter Road outfit made a right-back their deadline-day priority.

And Naismith, who signed a three-year deal when he moved south to the Posh last summer, has confessed he jumped at the chance to kick-start his campaign back in the Scottish Premiership.

He said: “I’m delighted we were able to get the deal over the line and I’m looking forward to getting started.

“No-one has to tell me how big a club Hibernian are and when I heard about their interest I didn’t have to think twice.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up with the rest of the boys this week and getting to work.”

Hibs manager Paul Heckingbottom is under pressure after seeing his side leak 14 goals in just four games and will be hoping Naismith helps shore up a leaky rearguard also shorn of the injured Darren McGregor.

The Englishman has previously stated his desire to avoid loan deals in favour of permanent contracts.

However, he is happy to have been able to add a 10th new face to his squad after previously stating his transfer business was likely at an end.

He added: “Jason is someone who knows the league and has done well up here before.

“He’s a competitive player who will add real presence to our squad.

“Jason also showed his enthusiasm to come and play for Hibernian by helping push through the deal in time.”
