GLASGOW has become one of the flagship cycling locations in the UK, with a brand-new fleet of e-bikes launched by bike share company nextbike around the city.

In total, 630 bikes were introduced into the city in 2014 by nextbike, with over 1.4 million km clocked up by avid cyclists in the last 5 years.

Sixty-three electric-powered bikes have now been introduced, making Glasgow one of the first in the UK for nextbike’s latest venture.

Nextbike Managing Director, Krysia Solheim, said: “Glasgow is one of our flagship schemes, so it’s fitting that the city will get our first significant fleet of e-bikes.

The brand-new e-bikes, funded by Glasgow City Council and Scottish Government eBike Grant Fund, has so far been embraced with City Convener for Sustainability and Carbon Reduction and Councillor, Anna Richardson, describing them as “a fantastic option for getting about the city.”

She said: “Adding e-bikes to the hire fleet is another clear demonstration of our commitment to pursue more sustainable forms of transport in Glasgow and add to the effort to decarbonise how we travel across the city.”

The 63 new e-bikes will be available across the city at 21 charging points.
