A YOUNG man who was reported missing has been found dead.

Police confirmed that they have found the body of 21-year-old Steven Ingram in the Barrhead area on Wednesday, October 9.

The death is not being treated as suspicious. 

The force added that formal identification has taken place and his family is aware.

We previously reported that police were searching for Steven after he vanished from his home on Monday.

Inspector Stevie Gow said: "Our thoughts are with Steven's family and friends at this sad and difficult time.

"Thank you to everyone who shared our earlier appeal for information and assisted with enquiries."

Tributes immediately poured in on social media following the discovery.

One said: "So sad, thinking of his family."

Another added: "Heartbroken to say the least. The sweetest soul with a heart of absolute gold. I'll never forget the good times we had growing up together. I hope you've found peace, sleep tight buddy."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that a body found in the Barrhead area on Wednesday, October 9 2019 is that of missing person Steven Ingram. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"The 21-year-old was reported missing from his home in Barrhead on Monday, October 7  2019. Formal identification has taken place and his family are aware."
