Nicola Sturgeon has won praise from an unlikely source today, after Good Morning Britain host, Piers Morgan, lauded her leadership skills.

In an interview, Mr Morgan had grilled the First Minister on Scottish independence and what he said was an inevitable border between Scotland and England creating the same problem that Ireland has now with Brexit.

Ms Sturgeon told him a hard border was avoidable and she did not want a hard border.

She also said: "We would continue to trade with the rest of the UK and the rest of the UK would trade with Scotland."

She said the choice facing Scotland was to either  "decide our own future or have it decided for us by people like Boris Johnson."

Ms Sturgeon was speaking from Aberdeen where the SNP is holding its annual conference.

After the interview, still speaking on the air in the ITV studio, Mr Morgan compared the SNP leader to leaders at Westminster during the Brexit era.

He said: "I can't help liking Nicola Sturgeon." "She exudes leadership", he added.

The controversial TV host said Theresa May didn't show that type of leadership.

He added: "Nicola Sturgeon, whether you like her or not has a clear idea of what she wants for her country."
