Holidaymakers will have even more opportunity to head for sunnier climes next summer after travel giant TUI announced a slew of new routes and flights from Glasgow airport.

Jet-setting locals could be bound for the Turkish beach resort of Bodrum or the volcanic Canary Island of Fuerteventura after the destinations were added to TUI’s line up of flights for summer 2020.

Additional flights to popular destinations including Dalaman, in Turkey, and Spanish resorts Palma, Reus and Tenerife have also been announced, while those looking for a more long-haul break will be able to jet off to Cancun, Mexico with a new weekly flight every Tuesday.

The company has launched its “biggest ever holiday programme” following a summer of disruption for travellers after the collapse of Thomas Cook, while hundreds saw their holidays cancelled when flight operator FlyLoLo was unable to secure aircraft to meet demand for the flights.

Paul White, Head of Aviation at Glasgow Airport, said: “TUI’s announcement today is fantastic news for Glasgow Airport and is to be commended. Given the events of recent weeks, there was clearly a need to meet the huge demand out there for some of our most popular destinations.”

“TUI has stepped in with the introduction of a phenomenal number of seats and even more choice to a wide range of destinations, which will be welcome news for our passengers planning their 2020 holidays.”

The firm will also introduce new ten and 11 night holidays to eight destinations including long haul family favourite Orlando, plus mid-haul hotspots Antalya, Turkey, Corfu and Zakynthos, Greece, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Menorca, Spain and Enfidha, Tunisia.

TUI’s director of aviation planning, Karen Switzer added: “Earlier this month TUI announced an additional two million seats to many holiday destination favourites and today the majority of these seats go on sale for summer 2020. We are delighted that our new additions launched today provide holidaymakers departing from our regional airports with even more choice when deciding where to go next summer on holiday.”
