For thousands of fans, the announcement of Irn Bru 1901 already made it seem like Christmas had come early.

But Santa appears to have spread some more of his festive magic around the AG Barr factory after the soft drink giant teased a second limited-edition version of Scotland’s other national drink in time for the holiday season.

The Evening Times can exclusively reveal Irn Bru connoisseurs will be waking up to a special gift in their stockings this Christmas with a special festive version of the drink.

News of the limited edition drink began circulating after retailers were advised to start stocking up on marketing materials for the product - a ‘spiced ginger’ flavour similar to that of Fiery Irn Bru, launched in 2011.

A post on Reddit apparently showing designs for the bottle - possessing a red label with a snowflake design - has further fueled rumours, while a leaked product description claimed the drink would retain its legendary original flavour, but came infused with ‘hints of ginger, clove and cinnamon’.

However, there is no word yet on whether Bru will bring back their classic Snowman advert to launch the drink.

A spokesperson for IRN-BRU said: "Whether you're naughty or nice, hold onto your reindeer, there's something special on the list for Christmas”.

In 2011, Barr’s launched ‘Fiery Irn Bru,’ a spiced version of the soft drink designed to give an extra kick with two secret ingredients, rumoured to be chilli and ginger.

However, the drink was discontinued a few years later owing to poor sales.

It comes just days after Irn Bru 1901 promised to take fans of the soft drink back to the start of the 20th century to sample the ‘old and unimproved’ version made to a handwritten recipe stored deep in the company archives.

The drink – which has no caffeine - is set to hit the shelves this December, faithfully packaged in traditional 75cl glass bottles as it was originally sold.
