An elderly woman has died following a road traffic collision in the south side of Glasgow.

The 95-year-old was struck by a red Mazda on Aikenhead Road, near Cathcart Road on Thursday evening.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene, however the woman was pronounced dead by responders.

The road remained closed for four hours while police attended the incident.

Officers have now launched an appeal for witnesses following the collision.

Sergeant Jon Mochan, of Govan road policing unit, said: "We have already spoken to a number of people who witnessed the incident however we are appealing to anyone we haven't spoken to and who witnessed this to please contact us.

"The area would've been busy at that time and if any pedestrians or drivers saw this incident or have dash cam footage, contact us."
