A former police officer told a rape trial that he and his friend had sex with a schoolgirl – and that she was “enjoying herself”.

Lee McMullan said the then 17-year-old had gone with him and Darren Hunter to his flat in Glasgow's Gallowgate days before Christmas in 2017 after they met in a takeaway in Prestwick following a night out.

McMullan told jurors he initially had sex with the teenager before Hunter asked could he “join in”.

The 33-year-old, who was a serving officer in the city’s G division at the time, believed the girl was 23 or 24.

McMullan told how he and Hunter, 30, had booked a room for them at a hotel in nearby Ayr ahead of the night.

The court heard they had cocaine and vodka with them when they went to Elliot's nightclub.

Jurors have heard how the girl - now 19 - had earlier been out with a friend in Ayr.

McMullan initially believed the teenager was “attracted” towards Hunter before she joined the pair in a taxi back to the hotel.

He claimed it was there the teenager took cocaine, but McMullan later drove the pair back to his flat.

McMullan claimed he carried out a sex act on the girl and also had intercourse.

He claimed Hunter eventually came into the bedroom, where he asked if he could “join in”.

McMullan said he had done something similar before, but not with Hunter.

Jurors heard claims the girl performed a sex act on Hunter before he went on to have intercourse with her as well.

He said he found the girl lying on his couch the next morning, again claiming she appeared “fine”.

The teenager stated in her evidence she had no memory of having sex with anyone.

McMullan said he chatted with the girl in the flat and asked what age she was.

He said: “I remember me and Darren looking at each other and that it was not the best she was 17.”

The pair deny a rape charge at the High Court.
