THE family of tragic Milton man Johnny Connelly has created a memorial bench in his memory.

The 28-year-old was first reported as a missing person before his body was recovered from the water at Spiers Wharf on July 22 - and months on police still do not know what happened to him.

Now community campaigner Alex O'Kane, of No1seems2care,  has revealed Johnny's mum Norah had created the lasting tribute in his memory.

In a statement, Alex said: "We had the privilege of spending an afternoon with Johnny Connelly's mum Norah last week.

"Johnny was her only son and he lived with her. She misses him every second of the day and night. Her pain and anguish was palpable.

"Despite this Norah repeatedly expressed thanks and appreciation to everyone that has helped and supported her and her family during this difficult time.

He added: "A memorial bench has been placed in a special place that Johnny was familiar with in line with his family's wishes."

Glasgow Times:

Johnny, from Cathay Street, was reported missing by his family when he didn’t return home from a day out with his friend in Glasgow City Centre on Monday,  July 15. His body was recovered from the water at Speirs Wharf in Glasgow a week later.

He had injuries to his head and body, and much of the investigation so far has focused on a possible altercation that happened in an underpass in the city centre prior to John's death.

Glasgow Times:

Police have made several appeals over the unexplained death but appear to be no further forward in finding out what happened to Johnny.

In a bid to encourage witnesses, police previously said Johnny was in the city with his pal but they had separated when heading home for the night.

Glasgow Times:

Around 10 pm on the day he went missing he was seen walking alone in Buchanan Street past Buchanan Galleries and the bus station then on to Dundasvale Court and into the underpass at Garscube Road leading to Speirs Wharf in the Cowcaddens area around 10.20 pm.

He was wearing a black Adidas hooded top, with white stripes down the sleeves, black jogging trousers, and royal blue coloured Nike trainers.
