THREE community choirs have teamed up in a bid to raise money for a charity which helps people struggling with mental health.

Achoired Taste, ZIGZAG and Rock Us got in touch with Theatre Nemo, an organisation based in Glasgow which aims to engage and enrich the lives of people dealing with a broad range of mental health issues.

The choirs asked if they could organise a fundraiser on the Theatre’s behalf.

Also taking part in The Greatest Hits concert, which is the first of its kind, are the First Chord Ukulele Orchestra, Shiru Miruku Taiko as well as members of Paisley Sinfonia.

Hugh McCue, CEO of Theatre Nemo, said: “The three choirs have come together to raise money for us. We are hoping to achieve more funds which will support the work we do in the community.

“I will be delivering a speech during the event to tell the audience a bit more about what we do and how they can help.

“Our Japanese Taiko Drumming group will open the event and perform for about ten minutes before the three choirs, which have joined forces to perform as one, provide the rest of the entertainment.

“There will also be an orchestra who will accompany them as well as the ukulele orchestra.”

Theatre Nemo will also show a film during the event which showcases the work they do and the adults they support.

The charity aims to help people in recovery from poor mental health by providing creative workshops that have a focus on mental wellbeing.

Day courses provide participants with coping strategies while developing a greater understanding of their own mental health, where to get support and how to support others.

Mr McCue continued: “This is the first time we have done an event like this. We have had fundraisers in the past, but this is the biggest one yet.

“It is taking part in a beautiful church and it is going to be a lovely night. I want to thank the choirs for suggesting we run an event like this.

“We are hoping this will be a great night. Many people have given up their spare time to organise this. We are really grateful to them.”

So far 270 out of 300 tickets have been sold but the remaining 30 are still available to buy through Eventbrite.

The Greatest Hits will take place on Sunday, December 8 at North Wellneuk Church, Abercorn Street, Paisley.

Tickets cost £8 and concessions are £6.
