Members of the public are being warned to not approach a restricted patient who failed to return to a Glasgow hospital.

Steven Wilson, 55, did not return to the hospital on Friday, December 6.

He has failed to return to the authorities in the past, once in 2012 and in 2007.

The 55-year-old, who was convicted of manslaughter in 1988, is classed as a restricted patient - a prisoner who as committed a crime but is mentally unfit to go to prison.

In 2012, the government mistakenly issued an email detailing concerns about tracing Wilson, describing him as someone with "a history of very serious violence in the context of alcohol abuse".

The Scottish Government issued an appeal for information on Saturday evening but made no mention of his criminal past despite warning the public to not approach him.

If he is seen, they are urging the public to contact the police "immediately" on 101.

Wilson is a white male, 5ft 9inches tall, with dark hair and blue eyes.

He has also been described as heavily tattooed, including tattoos of the name 'Mary' on his right arm, a dot above his left eyebrow and a Jamaican flag on his left arm.

He has failed to return to the authorities in the past, once in 2012 and in 2007.
