It really felt like this gig was a long time coming for devoted fans to the singer-songwriter whose popularity has exploded worldwide in the past 12 months.

The screams in the venue were piercing as he strode onto the stage, waving his iconic peace sign and revelling in the applause.

Launching into the first song, Grace, the audience were in visibly high spirits, as nearly everyone in the crowd sang the words back to him as he performed.

It was 15 minutes into the set that Lewis first actually spoke to the crowd, but after 5 minutes of miming sports getting excitable cheers, he finally brought his signature patter to the self-proclaimed homecoming stage.

“I feels good to be home, it feels good to be really home.” Lewis told to the crowd, being met with loud and adoring wave of cheers.

He strode around the stage as if it was his stand-up routine he was starting, not belting out some of the biggest hits of the year, which was admittedly refreshing to see from a performer.

Chat with the crowd included explaining he’d lost his voice a week ago and having to cancel gigs before, to explaining how the release of an extended album works - “Yous have been rinsed, the record company have rinsed yous” he jokingly proclaimed.

The biggest reactions of the night came from new single Before You Go, and Lewis’ most well-known song Someone You Loved, with the singer-songwriter belting out hit after hit with an impressively powerful live voice.

Lewis stayed impeccably on-brand throughout, even treating the crowd to a free Greggs on “The Capaldi Tab” after the gig.

The atmosphere didn’t subdue at any point in the gig, and with such high spirits and Lewis in great form, the gig will be one hard to forget for a long time.
