Glasgow could wake up to a sheet of ice over the next few days amid country-wide weather warnings.

The Met Office has issued a Yellow warning for ice which is set to affect Glasgow and its surrounding areas - and some snow may be on the way.

They say spell of rain and hill snow is likely to affect many areas, with skies clearing at times causing icy surfaces.

Temperatures are set to plunge throughout the night, with the warning covering between 9pm and 11am on Saturday evening and Sunday evening.

Snow is most likely above 200 metres elevation, and will more than likely be focused in the north Pennines and into parts of Scotland; here it could affect a few lower-lying areas.

The city will see temperatures dip to a freezing 0C tonight, with a maximum of about 5C during the day.

Members of the public are being warned to take care if they are driving on the roads during the weather warning.

Met Office meteorologist Greg Dewhurst said: “Anyone who is out Christmas shopping will have to wrap up warmly.

“Over the high ground of northern England and Scotland, some places may have a covering of snow.

“Temperatures for most places will be between 3C (37.4F) and 7C (44.6F), with maximum temperatures of 10C (50F) in the South East where the best of the sunshine will be.

“We are also looking at wind gusts of 35 to 40mph.”
