OVER 200 people took part in a candlelit walk in memory of popular Cumbernauld man Tony Rice.

Friends and family of the 24-year-old walked around Broadwood Loch on Sunday to raise awareness of a group set up after he tragically took his own life.

Tony’s Safe Place helps anyone affected by suicide or mental health – and it is hoped the public event will encourage those needing help to reach out. It also comes after the town lost four young men under 30 to suicide in the last month.

A spokeswoman for Tony's Safe Place said: "What an amazing night. A community together as one - walking, talking, reminiscing together, good times, hard times but all as one.

"There was not one single one of you who have it easy out there but every one of you came together to support each other in a time of grief and that shows strength and unity in a community broken but not beyond repair.

"We will repair it together. We're not losing anyone else."

Tony's Safe Place wanted to thank Gerry McMahon and Frankie Murphy for helping organise the event.
