A GLASGOW community has got the spirit of Christmas wrapped up with a spectacular festive window display that is brightening up the area and helping tackle loneliness and isolation.

Every evening in December a Scotstoun one home reveals a Christmas-themed window that is lit until 10.30pm. Each one will remain illuminated until January 5.

By Christmas Day, 24 windows are revealed, creating a festive wonderland across the community which is uniting residents, who may have been strangers, as they gather to watch the unveiling of each window.

The community’s Living Advent event, which was launched last year, also includes a carol singing event on December 22, which will raise funds for the local community centre, Heart of Scotstoun.

Glasgow Times:

Scotstoun resident Meg McGuire said: “The unveilings built over time last year.

“It was initially only a handful of us but built to crowds of 50 or more.We lingered to chat, sometimes shared a mince pie or mulled wine but the most important thing was the sense of togetherness.

“ I know so many more people than I did a year ago. Whenever the kids ask, “how do you know them?”, my answer is invariably “the windows!”

Other Glasgow communities have launched similar window display events including Strathbungo and Maryhill.
