A YOUNG disabled boy’s dreams of becoming a goalkeeper have come true – thanks to the help of a former Partick Thistle star.

Kai Evitt, a nine-year-old from Belfast, suffers from Ectrodactyly – meaning he has central digits missing in both his hands and feet.

A Manchester United fan, little Kai dreamt of replicating his idol David De Gea, but his deficiency meant it was almost impossible to get the right equipment.

His godmother Ashlea Irvine contacted the club, Adidas, Nike, Puma and even the British Paralympic Association but came to no joy.

That was, until former Partick Thistle keeper and current Jags’ goalkeeping coach Kenny Arthur stepped in.

He’s the co-founder of Kaliaaer, and upon hearing Kai’s story made two personalised gloves free of charge.

Ashlea said: “We will never be able to thank Kenny Arthurs and his brand enough, they have given such a special gift to a 9-year-old boy who has now joined a local football team.

“He cannot wait to be at practice with them!”

Kai’s mum Deborah added that it “broke her heart” that she initially couldn’t help achieve her son’s goals.

She added: “Thanks to the love and dedication from my best friend and more importantly, the kindness and generosity shown from Kenny Arthur, they have made Kai’s dreams come true.

“A small gesture to some, life changing for us - something we will forever be humbled and grateful for.

"They say not all heroes wear capes but in our eyes they will always be our heroes for what they have done for us and Kai".

Kenny Arthur added said: “It was the least we could do, our whole reason for existence is to help the Goalkeepers’ union as much as possible.

“Seeing how happy Kai was with his gloves is what it’s all about for me and the rest of the Kaliaaer team.”
