GLASWEGIANS are being encouraged to take part in a new walk with a doc programme which will launch in the city next month.

The programme brings doctors and patients together for a healthy walk.

It takes place on  Sunday, January 12 at 11 am from Soul Food Kitchen on 973 Sauchiehall Street.

Those behind the event say it is the first of its kind in Scotland

Dr Laura Freeman, a certified lifestyle medicine doctor, is encouraging the people of Glasgow to take a step towards better health by taking part.

Walk with a Doc is an international non-profit organisation whose mission is to inspire communities to wellness through a combination of movement and conversation.

She said: "This program has had tremendous participation and success in hundreds of cities but this is the first walk to launch in Scotland.

"I’m truly thrilled to bring this simple yet very exciting program to Glasgow.

"It has shown incredible health improvements for so many people."

The walk is open and free to the community.

Walkers will enjoy a short presentation on a current health topic at Soul Food Kitchen followed by a rejuvenating walk with Dr Laura Freeman around Kelvingrove Park.

Soul Food Kitchen is delighted to collaborate with Dr Laura on this project.

The firm said their values of health and wellness through diet and lifestyle are aligned perfectly.

Founder Dr David Sabgir said: “Walk with a Doc is honoured to team up with her.

"By incorporating this program into practice, she is demonstrating an exceptional level of care and commitment to her community”

Dr Freeman said: "There’s no question that increasing exercise, even simply by walking, reduces the risks of so many diseases, including heart disease, breast, and colon cancer, and type 2 diabetes.

"Research has shown that it can boost your mood. promote strong social connections and even reverse the sign of brain ageing - it really is a great medicine!”
