A SEX attacker whose rape of a woman was witnessed by a young girl has been jailed for five years.

George Knight pounced on the victim at a house in Carluke, Lanarkshire in March 2018.

Knight had denied the crime during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

But, the 39-year-old, of Giffnock, East Renfrewshire, was convicted and today returned to the dock to be sentenced.

Lord Mulholland told Knight he had to address a number of issues including anger management.

The judge added: "The rape of a woman is an appalling attack.

"It has had a profound effect on her and you used violence to perpetrate the rape.

"You refused to listen to her as she said 'no' and you carried on regardless.

"This was witnessed by a girl. Your account (for what happened) was incredible.

"I found it incredible and so did the jury."

Louise Arrol, defending, said Knight continued to protest his innocence.

Miss Arrol: "In drink, he behaves in a way that he would not in sobriety."

Lord Mulholland also imposed a non harassment order banning Knight from contacting or approaching the woman for the next 15 years.
