Wild Rose, the musical drama film set in Glasgow, has picked up a prestigious BAFTA nomination for star Jessie Buckley, while war epic 1917 also picked up a handful of nominations.

The Irish actress, who stars as Rose-Lynn Harlan in the critically acclaimed film, gained the nomination alongside stars Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron, Renée Zellweger and Saorise Ronan in the category for Leading Actress. 

Wild Rose tells the story of a single mum from Glasgow who has dreams of becoming a Nashville country singer. 

The climactic song 'Glasgow' also gained recognition last month after being placed on the nominations for the Academy Award shortlist for Best Song.

Sam Mendes' 1917, which filmed at Govan Graving Docks in last summer, also picked up an incredible 9 nominations, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film and Director. 

The film, co-written by Glaswegian screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, is already set for award season success after scooping Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director at Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony.

Recently speaking to Glasgow Times, Krysty Wilson-Cairns, said: “I never thought as a young female writer I would be given the chance, especially one on this scale."

The BAFTA ceremony is set to take place on February 2nd, with Graham Norton hosting the night in London.
