More than 1,000 coats were donated to Glasgow's homeless this winter in an effort to help those less fortunate within the city.

According to Shelter Scotland, there were 5,679 homelessness applications from people in Glasgow from 2018/19. For the third year running, the 'Wrap Up Glasgow' campaign aims to help those in the city who are homeless, elderly and vulnerable.

Safestore, the UK's largest self-storage company, is now thanking Glaswegians for the generous donations, after its southside branch helped to store 1,001 coats for men, women and children between the 11th and 22nd of November. The coats will now be distributed to local charities within the area.

Shahid Kadodia, Digital & Marketing Director Safestore, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to be able to assist with such an important campaign once again this winter. With so many people in need in the Glasgow area, these coats will make a real difference.

"We could not have done it without the wonderful members of the public pulling together to make this happen - a big thank you to everyone who donated.

Mohammed Abid Shah of Human Appeal, added: “We promised a bigger and better Wrap Up Glasgow and this is what we delivered.

"We collected a total of 1,001 coats to help keep those in need warmer this winter. We’re also pleased that the coats will go on to benefit those who would otherwise be freezing this winter – thank you for all your donations, it really is appreciated.”
