MORE than 100,000 people are expected to take to the streets in Glasgow this weekend for the first independence march of the new decade.

The All Under One Banner (AUOB) march will see supporters of independence gather at Kelvingrove Park in the city's West End at 11.30am on Saturday, before parading through the city to finish Glasgow Green at around 3.30pm.

The group are describing the event as a "emergency march".

Supporters of the group want a second independence referendum, which they say the SNP gained a mandate for after winning 47 of Scotland's 59 seats in last month's general election.

Posting yesterday morning, All Under One Banner wrote on Twitter: "In three days we take to the streets in an #EmergencyMarch that we called after the #GE2019 where Scotland's electorate rejected Westminster rule and gave a mandate to the SNP for #indyref2020.

"If we let some Scottish rain stop us marching then we've no chance.

"The march is on."

The group were making reference to recent Met Office forecasts, which predicts 90% chance of rain between 9am and 3pm.

Roads will be closed in the city centre to allow the event to pass safely.

A Glasgow City Council traffic information bulletin reads: "Due to a parade on Saturday, January 11, there will be a number of roads restricted between the times of 8am until approximately 5pm.

"Roads will be restricted between Kelvin Way and Glasgow Green.

"Police have confirmed Transport Scotland will be closing a number of off ramps from the M8 and gantries will display closures / restrictions.

"Roads will be opened as soon as the parade has passed."

The planned route, which will be affected by road closures, is as follows:

Kelvingrove Park, Kelvinway, Gibson Street, Eldon Street, Woodlands Road, Sauchiehall Street, Pitt Street, Blythswood Square (S), West George Street, Renfield street, Union street, Jamaica street, Clyde Street, Saltmarket, Glasgow Green.

The SNP have not officially endorsed AUOB, but a number of politicians have attended in the past.

Humza Yousaf recently tweeted that he was "looking forward" to attending the rally.

This is the first in a series of marches being organised by All Under One Banner with one more march scheduled for Glasgow in May as well as a host of marches in Arbroath, Peebles, Elgin, Kirkcaldy, Stirling and Edinburgh.
