Hearts boss Daniel Stendel is hopeful of bringing Wolfsburg striker Charles-Jesaja Herrmann to Tynecastle.
The promising youngster, 19, has struggled to break into the German giants' first-team but has enjoyed spells in the country's fourth-tier with Wolfsburg II.
Stendel is a huge admirer of the attacker and previously tried to take him to Barnsley twice during his time in English football.
Sources in Germany tell Herald Sport that Stendel has continued to keep tabs on Herrmann and wants to bring him to Scotland.
It comes a short time after Hearts were also reportedly keen on a move for former Ross County striker Liam Boyce of Burton Albion.
It is understood Herrmann would be open to a Scottish switch having been left disappointed at a lack of game time this term for Wolfsburg II.
The striker has represented Germany at youth level on the international stage, scoring three times for the under-19s.
He has also netted four goals and provided one assist this campaign in 14 appearances for his club.
