ST JOHNSTONE full-back Callum Booth is optimistic that a decent return in the Scottish Cup this season can add another layer to St Johnstone’s season.

Tommy Wright’s side were comfortable winners when they saw off Morton on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win, even if the Greenock side posed a few questions that were not reflected in the scoreline.

Still, Saints have progressed into the last 16 with Booth, Murray Davidson and Stevie May all penning their names on the scoresheet.

“You have got to aim as high as you possibly can,” said Booth.

“Hopefully we can get to Hampden somehow or another. We will take it game by game and just try to get as high as we can. I have been at a quarter-final but even getting to Hampden in some form would be good.”

There has been a glimpse of light for Wright’s side with their run of form in December elevating them away from the problems at the bottom and their latest win now means they are unbeaten in their last six games – a run that Booth hopes will continue as the Premiership resumes this weekend.

“When you are on a run like this you want it to continue,” he said. “The last six games we have only conceded one goal.

“That is our aim as defenders to keep doing that. It was a good day overall because we got ourselves through into the next round of the Scottish Cup and although we could maybe have played a bit better there were definitely some positives in there.”
