Talented young Glasgow filmmakers have been named finalists in this year's Gaelic short film competition FilmG.

The theme for the twelfth edition of the competition was “Treòraich” meaning to guide or lead. 

Two Glasgow schools received nominations for their films submitted to the Youth category, which had a record 75 entries this year. 

Glendale Gaelic Primary School in Glasgow received a nomination in the Best Youth Group Film category. 

Their film An Coidse uses sport to show the importance of being a good leader.

Two pupils from Glasgow Gaelic School were nominated for the Best Performance category. 

Connor Galbraith received a nomination for his performance in their police drama titled Fo Chasaid Mhùirt, while Alice Gordon was nominated for her performance in Ar Solas. 

She was also nominated in the Best Young Filmmaker category for her own film.

Her film An Losgann agus An Sgairp explores the darker side of vlogging. 

Christine Morrison, a documentary producer with 25 years of experience was on this year’s Youth judging panel.

She said: “It was a pleasure to watch the many original, inventive films made by talented young film-makers as a member of the FilmG 12 - 17 youth category judging panel. 

"Competition was tough as film-makers tackled a wide range of subject matter with verve and style.”

Glasgow was also represented in the Open category that welcomes filmmakers of all ages. 

Hamish MacLeòid from Glasgow received two nominations in the category for his film about climbing titled Aig an Oir for both Best Film and Best Industry Director.

Murdo MacSween, communications manager for MG ALBA which funds the competition, said, “FilmG is an integral part of the Gaelic media environment, sparking creativity and developing talent to the extent where the next step could be employment and a career working in the sector.

"The quality of the films has been outstanding this year and it will be an exciting awards ceremony.”

All the shortlists are available to view on the FilmG website, and voting for the People’s Choice Award is still open until January 31. 

The awards ceremony will be held in the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow on February 14.
