Rangers fans are set to hold a minute’s applause at tomorrow's St Mirren game for a 13-year-old fan who died after a battle with cystic fibrosis.

Ayden Cochrane had been battling the illness and campaigning for the use of a potentially life-saving drug, Vertex, also known as Trifafta, before his tragic passing on January 20.

The drug, which was branded “almost a cure” by doctors, was granted through a compassionate-use scheme as the drug has not yet been granted an EU licence.

The teenager and his family had found out only a few days before his passing that the drug would be available to use.

In a post on social media, Ayden’s family said: “I'm absolutely devastated but our precious boy was too tired for this world and has gained his wings.

“We know how many people loved Ayden he was an absolute warrior but he got tired and now he's at peace and pain free.”

As a sign of appreciation, Ayden, a passionate Rangers fan, will receive a minute’s applause on the 13th minute at tomorrow’s league match against St Mirren.

Members of the first team, including Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier, had previously visited the teenager in hospital during a Christmas visit to The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

Greg Marshall, Rangers' liaison officer with supporters, said in a tweet: “Following on from the tragic passing of young Ayden Cochrane there will be a minutes applause on the 13th minute at tomorrow's match. We encourage all supporters to participate. RIP Ayden #oneofourown.”
