A £2.8 MILLION plan to refurbish one of Glasgow's most used swimming pools has been revealed.

Glasgow Life will today announce details of planned improvement works to the pool in Glasgow Club Scotstoun.

Set to start on Monday, March 23, the works will see major renovations to the facility, including a new modern poolside health suite, more lockers and storage space, and a renovated changing village.

This will mean the pool will be shut for nine months and see car parking spaces at the site reduced.

Councillor David McDonald, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow Life, said: "These renovations will see major improvements to Glasgow Club Scotstoun, ensuring it continues to serve the local community for years to come.

"We’ve listened to member feedback and have taken this into consideration in our plans to refurbish the pool and wetside area.

"The refurbishment will create a smoother customer journey, and work to the pool will allow us to schedule more early years Learn to Swim lessons which we know is something our customers are keen to see.

"We understand the resulting closures will have an impact on Glasgow Club Scotstoun users, and we’ve worked hard to ensure the renovations are carried out as quickly as possible.

"Glasgow Club members can use any of our other pools across the city while the work is being carried out in Scotstoun, and our staff will be more than happy to help customers with any queries regarding the improvements."

Sunday, March 22 will see the final date of public access to the pool in order to allow the works to be carried out.

The upgrades will take around nine months to complete, and the new pool and wetside area will reopen to the public in late 2020.

Some areas of the car park will be used to facilitate the refurbishment, meaning fewer parking spaces, however the venue’s gym, fitness studios, café, sports halls, and tennis courts will be unaffected and will remain open throughout the work.

Learn to Swim customers will be contacted by swimming co-ordinators and offered the opportunity to relocate or suspend their membership for the duration of the refurbishment.

Glasgow Sport is urging all customers who use Glasgow Club Scotstoun pool to visit myglasgow.club/scotstounrefurb as soon as possible in order to get more information about the renovations, and to ensure they are aware of how the planned closures will affect them directly.

Plans for the pool include a newly designed wet area with a fully inclusive changing village including casual swim changing area and dedicated family/group changing.

There will be a new health suite with modern steam and sauna cabins, and new "experience shower" - a shower with different water settings.

For improved disability access there will be Changing Places facilities and a separate disabled shower and changing room.

The swimming pool will be a new depth with new lighting, ventilation, and underfloor heating and a new air conditioning system.

There will also be more than 200 new lockers operated with Glasgow Club RFID bands, dedicated pram and buggy lockers, a private baby change room and new private showers.
