PAUL MCGINN reckons a more attacking game plan could pay dividends for St Mirren against under-fire Aberdeen this weekend.

The Buddies offered very little threat as they went down 1-0 to Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

They now face a Dons side reeling after a home defeat to Motherwell and McGinn said: “I’m a pretty good reader of the game and Jermain Defoe’s game is all about jinking runs - he’s not like a Sam Cosgrove who will just try and fight you! So I did enjoy the challenge.

“But at the cross that went through the legs he was alive to the situation and bang it’s 1-0 and that’s the way it goes.

“I felt Akin Famewo and Conor McCarthy did well. They don’t know the boys very well and the movement and where players will go and it’s hard to do, especially with the pressure of playing in front of 50,000 people so they equipped themselves well.

Glasgow Times:

“Every game requires a different gameplan and I don’t imagine we’ll be five at the back again but we’ll see what happens on Sunday.

"We got a good result against Aberdeen at St Mirren Park the last time we played so they’ll be out for revenge and hopefully we can repeat it.

“Aberdeen are a big club so if they get a defeat then their fans are baying for blood so we’ll hope to take advantage of the midweek loss but Derek McInnes knows what he’s doing and knows how to get a reaction from his players.”
