Robbie has been coached and is being mentored throughout the competition by Gary, who is also the City of Glasgow College’s Executive Chef.

He said: “This competition offers our students a unique experience, giving them the chance to see another country and work with people from different parts of the world, with different cultures.

“Robbie will get to meet some of the world’s greatest chefs and make some valuable contacts.

"Taking part in such high profile events sets students apart from the pack, it’s fantastic for their CVs.

"It’s a tough competition with a lot pressure but this is what we prepare our students for and I know Robbie is up for the challenge.”

The pair will head out next week ahead of the competition's opening ceremony which takes place on Tuesday.

The competition begins on Wednesday and Robbie's first two heats will take place in Delhi. He will then travel with Gary to Kolkata for the final rounds and the closing ceremony.

Robbie said: "It has been brilliant working with Gary. Even after just a few days of being coached by him, I learned loads and I want to learn as much as I can.

"This will be my first time to India and I’m looking forward to seeing everything and to taking part in the competition.

"I enjoy food, there’s nothing I don’t like. I enjoyed cooking at school so coming to college and doing professional cookery was the obvious choice for me.”

Scotland has been drawn in Group A which sees Robbie up against chefs from the Philippines, Armenia, Spain, E.N. Guinea, Belize, South Korea, Egypt, Nigeria, and Northern Ireland.
