CRAIG WIGHTON marked his Arbroath debut with what proved to be the winning goal against Partick Thistle at Gayfield on Saturday in a 2-1 win for Dick Campbell's side and admitted afterwards that he is playing for his future at Tynecastle.
The Hearts striker moved to the Championship side on loan last week to get some much-needed game-time after being told by Daniel Stendel that he was not in his immediate plans.
But Wighton is hopeful that a successful loan spell with the Red Lichties will ensure that he has a role to play in Gorgie next season.
"It’s up to me to come here and do well and really kickstart my career," he said. "Hopefully I do well here, score goals and help the club finish as high as possible. And come the summer I’ll look at my options.
"At this moment in time, as long as the manager is there I’m not in his plans. Either I’ll have impressed enough here to get back in his plans or I’ll have other options elsewhere."
Brian Graham was one of four Thistle players to make their league debut for the Jags and while he grabbed a late consolation strike, the former Ross County man admits his team's performance simply wasn't good enough.
"It’s a bad result, there’s no hiding from it," he said. "We’ve just got to dust ourselves down and take it on the chin. You can’t feel sorry for yourself. We just have to pick ourselves up in training this week because we’ve got another big game on Friday."
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
