A student chef from City of Glasgow College has made it through to the final 10 at an international culinary competition taking place in India. 

Robbie Maitland, 20, has traveled to Delhi for the Young Chef Olympiad alongside his mentor and Masterchef star Gary MacLean. 

The competition involves 60 countries from around the world and is the third year in a row City of Glasgow College has been represented. 

Its opening ceremony took place on Tuesday, January 29.

The young chef from Rutherglen is representing Scotland at the competition and will still be facing competitors from South Korea, Jordan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, South Africa and England.

Robbie has been coached and is being mentored throughout the competition by Gary, who is also the City of Glasgow College’s Executive Chef.

He said: “Robbie will get to meet some of the world’s greatest chefs and make some valuable contacts.

"It’s a tough competition with a lot pressure but this is what we prepare our students for and I know Robbie is up for the challenge.”

Robbie’s first two heats were in Delhi and he and Gary traveled to Kolkata for the final rounds and the closing ceremony.

The Young Chef Olympiad first took place in 2015.
