A man has been found dead and another was seriously injured in the city centre last night. 

The two men were found on waste ground near Glasgow Central Station on Jamaica Street. 

Emergency services were rushed to the scene at 10.45pm on February 1. 

Officers have launched an appeal as they investigate the "unexplained" death.

The 40-year-old man was declared dead on the scene and the British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed his family has been informed. 

The second man was taken to be treated in hospital. 

A spokeswoman for BTP said: "Detectives are currently investigating the unexplained death of a male and serious injury of another male at Glasgow Central Station, last night.

"At around 10.45pm officers received reports of two injured men on waste ground off Jamaica Street, Glasgow.

"Officers from BTP and emergency services attended and a 40-year-old male was sadly declared dead at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed."

She added: "The second male is currently being treated in hospital for serious injuries.
