The owner of a rare Celtic football jersey has pleaded with the public to keep their eyes peeled after it was stolen from a display in a museum in England. 

The away top from the 1991/92 season was reported as stolen on Saturday monring from the National Football Museum in Manchester. 

Taking to Twitter, owner of the jersey Paul Lamb said: "Please retweet... I’ve just found out that my shirt has been stolen from the Football Museum display over the weekend!"

"Can all collectors please keep an eye out for it."

"It's a very rare match worn shirt, with number 10 on the back."

Greater Manchester Police are now probing the theft of the jersey with the number ten on the back.

The Umbro top was worn by the Parkhead club during the 1991/92 season where they finished in third place behind Hearts and Rangers.

A National Football Museum spokesperson said: “The National Football Museum can confirm that a football shirt was stolen from our third floor gallery during opening hours on Saturday."

"We are in contact with the lender of the shirt and the incident is being investigated by Greater Manchester Police."
