GLASGOW Clan celebrated their team’s first ever testimonial game last night.

With beers on the bench, nearly 2,700 fans flocked to the Braehead Arena to celebrate the career of Matt Haywood.

Glasgow Times:

Since coming to the team as a fresh-faced 18 year old boy, Haywood has worked his way up the ranks to establish himself as the team’s now renowned captain. He has made more than 400 appearances for the club and has been at the ice hockey side since its inception 10 years ago.

Glasgow Times:

Twenty previous players of the club flew in from Canada and America to celebrate the captain’s career and take part in the testimonial game.

Haywood’s brother Lee - who is also an ice hockey player - also picked up a hockey stick to join in on the testimonial celebrations.

Glasgow Times:

Ahead of the Glasgow club’s special occasion, Haywood admitted to the Glasgow Times he was “looking forward to it” but felt a little nervous at the same time, admitting “I’d never have believed I’d still be in Glasgow 10 years on” since starting out as a young boy.

Haywood’s family - including his wife and three-year-old daughter Charley - stood in the supporting stand to devote their pride to their father and husband.

The Glasgow Times attended the event to hand out 1,000 souvenir edition copies that celebrate the club’s first ever testimonial with Matt Haywood.

Glasgow Times:

Guide Dogs Scotland was chosen as the main donations collector for the big event, as Haywood’s wife Jennifer is a big fan of pooches being a puppy walker for the organisation.
