JACK ROSS reckons there were plenty of positives to take for Hibernian despite being left with nothing to show for their efforts at Ibrox.

The visitors took a surprise lead after 35 minutes as Paul Hanlon converted following a mistake from Gers keeper Allan McGregor.

Rangers were under pressure at that stage as Hibs held their own but George Edmundson gave Steven Gerrard’s side a lift as he levelled on the stroke of half-time.

That was the catalyst that Rangers needed and they were impressive after the break as Ross’s side found themselves on the back foot for long spells.

Their resistance was finally broken with just a couple of minutes remaining as Ianis Hagi netted his first goal for the Light Blues to clinch a huge Premiership win.

The victory was deserved for Rangers but Leith boss Ross was encouraged by the performance of his side despite the final result.

He said: “I think before the game I spoke about us wanting to be more competitive than we had been against Rangers in the previous two games this season - and we were.

“I was proud of the effort. We were resolute, disciplined and hard working.

“Hugely frustrated not to take anything from the game. But there were a lot of positives.

“I think the second half would have been like that anyway. We would be under pressure.

“For the latter part of the first half, we were in a good position. To concede with the last kick of the half was frustrating.

“There were fine margins tonight. But a lot to take from that.

“The second goal, I thought we’d weathered the storm. We had to be resilient but we looked as if we were carrying more of a threat, had opportunities to counter.

“You start to feel a bit more comfortable and then a second-phase set piece, you feel frustrated that we didn’t deal with it better.”
