Military veteran and renowned singer-songwriter James Blunt will raise funds for a military charity at his Glasgow gig later this month.

The multi-platinum selling singer will send out volunteers during his show at the SEC Armadillo to collect funds for Help for Heroes.

The former British Army Officer plays the Clydeside venue on February 19 and hopes to raise money for the charity close to his heart.

James said: "I’ve seen first-hand how difficult life can be for veterans transitioning from the Armed Forces into Civvy Street".

This will add to the money the former British Army Officer has raised through some of the proceeds from his latest single, Monsters.

The single is an ode to his father who is currently waiting on a kidney donor to save him from a life-threatening illness.

He said he was "very happy" to raise money for Help for Heroes because he recognised the importance of supporting ex-service personnel back into civilian life and supporting those wounded, injured or sick through their service.

Yvonne Beattie, Help for Heroes’ Scottish volunteer co-ordinator, said: "James has already given us great support, having been a patron for many years and singing at our Help for Heroes concert.

"In Scotland and across the UK there have been almost 40,000 people whose military career has ended in the past 20 years because of physical or mental injury, and every day this number grows."

James served in a Cavalry regiment of the British Army and served under NATO in the Kosovo War in 1999. He brought his guitar when he was deployed to the region and would perform for fellow soldiers and locals.
