UEFA and Disney have partnered up to launch a new active programme to encourage young girls to take up football.

'Playmakers' will see girls aged 5-8 taking up sessions inspired by some of their favourite Disney stars in a push to get them more active and involved in the often male-dominated sport.

Nadine Kessler, UEFA Head of Women’s Football, said: “By taking that Disney magic, and implementing the first-ever pan-European girls’ grassroots football programme, we will give any girl the best possible opportunity to fall in love with football.

"We truly believe that this unique programme can be the spark for a more active generation of football-loving girls.”

Incredibles 2 will be the first theme for the Playmakers session, which will launch in Scotland in April.

The programme has had the backing of famous footballers, including Scotland's own Eric Cuthbert, who said: "When I was younger, this is definitely something I would loved to have been a part of.

"I can’t wait to see the positive effect that this programme will have.”
