A CLYDEBANK mum who tragically died two days before Christmas will soon have a memorial garden set up in the nursery where she worked.

Ashley Meehan, 31, suffered from cervical cancer, but in January this year she was laid to rest following her death on December 23 – just days before her final wish of spending one last Christmas with her young family.

The nursery teacher, who was a mum to five kids, with the youngest aged only two, also left behind her fiancé Peter Potts, who previously said that Ashley “was so brave and fought to the end for her babies”.

Last week, Ashley’s friends and colleagues at Brookland Nursery set up two sponsored walks and raised more than £1,500 in her memory.

Past and present employees at the nursery on Duntocher Road walked from Brookland to St Margaret’s Hospice – where Ashley was looked after in her final few months.

And the day before, children from the nursery walked around Dalmuir Park, an activity Ashley enjoyed doing with the kids while working at Brookland.

Emma Renfrew, who worked with Ashley, said: “Ashley was part of our Brookland family for 15 years. She was a fun, loving, caring person loved by our families, colleagues and most of all, our children that she cared for.

“Ashley has left us with so many amazing memories that we can cherish forever, she will be eternally loved and forever missed.

“We would like to thank everyone who supported us and donated to such an amazing cause. We will honour Ashley’s memory by having a memorial area within the nursery grounds.

“Ashley will be forever missed, always in our hearts, and always part of our Brookland family.”

So far, £1,512 has been raised that will go towards creating the memorial garden as well as a donation to St Margaret’s Hospice.
