AMBITIOUS plans to transform a derelict area North of Glasgow City Centre into a residential community have reached the next stage.

An up-to-date planning application to build 300 affordable homes for rent in Hamiltonhill complimented by a further 300 new build homes for sale has been submitted by Queens Cross Housing Association.

The development will take place on various sites including the former Wester Common and St Cuthberts Primary School site at Stonyhurst Street.

Green infrastructure in the form of tree planing, grass verges, street furniture and new path surfaces will be created along Diagonal Link, Derwent Street, Hamiltonhill Road as well as Stonyhurst Street where practical.

Last year £40 million funding from M&G Investments was secured for ambitious plans to transform the Hamiltonhill area of Glasgow into a new urban ‘suburb’.

Fresh plans with artist's impressions have been submitted to the council's planning department for approval.

Permission for 201 of the homes was granted by Glasgow City Council's planning department last year.

The design access statements outlines that the development will include four new green spaces including a community park, play park, link space and tranquil space.

It will also sport a MUGA (multi use games area), seven-aside sports pitch, pedestrian and cycle routes in a bid to promote active lifestyle and improve connectivity.

To aid the development of the green infrastructure proposals the housing association has established a community focus group to review, discuss and provide feedback on the design proposals.

The group is currently made up of around seven members local community that have an interest in the project.

The community area and play park will be multifunctional accommodating primary pedestrian and cycling access routes, secondary pedestrian routes for recreation as well as informal ‘natural’ play elements.

There will be flexible open spaces for sports, leisure and recreational activities.

The application will be brought before the council's planning committee in due course.
