High school pupils at Lourdes Secondary School will have the day off today as major issues with the school's water supply sparks closure.

Due to risk of health and safety, the school has been forced to close its doors for the day.

Parents and carers were made aware of the closure at around 9am this morning, when the school took to Twitter to announce the building currently had no water supply.

A statement reads: "Due to an issue with our water supply, we are unable to keep the school functioning today.

"There is a risk to health and safety as there is no water supply at all.

"As a result, pupils are being sent home.

"We apologise unreservedly for this inconvenience to pupils, parents and carers.

"Every effort is being made to rectify the situation as soon as possible.

"We are hopeful that the school will be open as normal tomorrow, and will communicate further updates via the app."

A Council spokeswoman said: “A decision has been taken to close the school as there’s no water and flooding in the playground.

"Pupils who have no alternative arrangements will be looked after in school and engineers are on site to fix the issue.

"The school will keep families updated on developments and the hope is the school can open as normal in the morning.”
